Lancaster, PA – The Lancaster Barnstormers (13-9, 58-34) defeated the Somerset Patriots (10-13, 45-48) 3-2 Saturday night from Clipper Magazine Stadium to clinch this three game weekend series.
In the bottom of the third inning right fielder Fehlandt Lentini recorded a RBI single and another run scored on a wild pitch by Roy Merritt as the Barnstormers led 2-0.
The Patriots tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning as first baseman Corey Smith slugged an opposite field two run home run (2) to right field.
The Barnstormers grabbed the lead in the home half of the eighth inning as Lentini smacked a solo home run (11) to right field to give Lancaster a 3-2 advantage.
Dwayne Pollok earned his ninth win of the season as he tossed eight innings allowing no earned runs, no walks while striking out 11 batters. Merritt was the tough luck loser as he hurled a season-high eight innings allowing just one earned run. The Patriots have now scored a total of 11 runs in Merritt’s last seven starts. Tim Hamulak notched his league leading 21st save of the season.
The 2012 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Tuesday August 7th when they return home to take on the Camden Riversharks.
