Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 5-4 in front of 5,781 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.
Somerset scored again in the bottom half of the sixth inning on an RBI double by Adam Donachie to increase their lead to 4-0.
Southern Maryland scored the following inning on a groundout by Sergio Pedroza. A few batters later, a fielding error by third baseman Jeff Nettles allowed another run to score to cut the lead to 4-2.
Somerset answered right back in the bottom half of the seventh inning on a solo homerun by Joe Holden (1) for the 5-2 lead.
Back to back solo homeruns by Kevin Rios (1) and Jeremy Owens (16) got the Blue Crabs within a run in the ninth before the Patriots were able to end the inning and pick up the win.
Patriots starter Justin Cassel (4-8) got the win after allowing two runs in seven innings pitched. Blue Crabs starter Nick Green (7-7) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits in six innings pitched. Andrew Dobies came on to pitch the ninth inning and gave up two homeruns before retiring the final batter to pick up his sixth save of the season.
