August 30th Game Notes; Barnstormers @ Patriots

Bridgewater, NJ – Tonight the Somerset Patriots (22-26, 57-61) host the Lancaster Barnstormers (30-16, 75-41) in the final game of this four game midweek series featuring these Freedom Division Foes at TD Bank Ballpark. The Barnstormers won the opener Monday night by a score of 7-3. The Barnstormers won Tuesday night 11-4. Lancaster pounded the Patriots last night 14-5. They have outscored Somerset 32-12 in the series thus far. Lancaster won the Freedom Division first half and has the best overall record of the eight teams in the Atlantic League.

Shortstop Yunesky Sanchez has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games

Power Outage Over

Last night Jesse Hoorelbeke blasted a three run home run which ended the Patriots home run drought. Before that homer, they had gone without a long ball since August 19th which was a span of nine games. Here is the audio clip courtesy of WCTC of Hoorelbeke’s line drive blast.

Wild Card Hunt

The Patriots are currently 5.5 games behind the Revolution in the Wild Card standings.

Sanchez Sizzling

Shortstop Yunesky Sanchez hit just .212 in the first half of the season but in the second half he has turned his season around. Since the All-Star break he’s hitting .313 with three home runs and 18 RBI. He had 11 RBI the entire first half. He has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games.

‘Storm Problems

The Patriots are just 3-13 against the Barnstormers in 2012 and have lost 12 of their last 13 including six in a row against the Butch Hobson’s club.

Corey’s Clutch Against ‘Stormers

Corey Smith plays very well against the Lancaster Barnstormers. In six games this season Smith is 10-for-24 (.417) with 2 HRs and 6 RBI. Six of his 10 hits have gone for extra bases.

Starting Pitching Matchup

Lefty Roy Merritt toes the rubber for Somerset while righty hurler Mark Brackman is on the hill for the Barnstormers.
