Bridgeport, CT – The Somerset Patriots (24-28, 59-63) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (23-25, 54-64) 5-4 Sunday afternoon from Harbor Yard in the rubber game of this three game weekend series.
The Bluefish scored in the ensuing half inning on a solo home run (10) to left field by first baseman Luis Lopez making the score 3-1.
Somerset added another run in the top of the sixth inning on third baseman Jeff Nettles’ RBI single which expanded the Patriots lead to 4-1.
Bridgeport responded with three runs in the ensuing half inning to tie the contest at 4-4. Right fielder Prentice Redman slugged a solo homer (16) to left field, center fielder James Simmons hit a RBI single and left fielder Joey Gathright tallied a RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Shortstop Yunesky Sanchez gave the Patriots a 5-4 lead which they would not relinquish in the top of the seventh inning as he smacked a go ahead RBI single off the glove of third baseman Brad Boyer with two outs and two strikes.
Andy Sisco earned his second win the season while Matt Pike suffered his eighth loss of the year. Brandon Braboy notched his first save of the season as he recorded the final two outs in the ninth inning.
The 2012 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, September 7th when the Patriots return home to take on the Lancaster Barnstormers at 7:05 p.m. The game features a Post-Game Fireworks Show and Diabetes Awareness Night.
