Central Islip, NY – The Somerset Patriots (26-29, 61-64) defeated the Long Island Ducks (16-36, 55-66) 5-1 Wednesday night from Bethpage Ballpark in game two of this doubleheader. Derell McCall was magnificent as he had a no hitter through 6.1 innings. McCall was two outs away from the first no hitter in Patriots franchise history until he surrendered a one out single in the seventh inning to first baseman Brandon Sing.

The Patriots scored three quick runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead. First baseman Jesse Hoorelbeke hit a RBI sacrifice fly and designated hitter Corey Smith socked a line drive two run home run (6) to left field.

Hoorelbeke spanked a towering home run (20) in the top of the third inning to expand Somerset’s lead to 4-0.

Third baseman Jeff Nettles collected a RBI via a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to make the score 5-0.

McCall earned his ninth win of the season as he tossed a complete game scattering just three hits. Jino Gonzalez suffered his second loss of the year.
