Bridgewater, NJ – Tonight the Somerset Patriots (26-30, 61-65) host the Lancaster Barnstormers (81-44, 36-19) in the second game of this three game weekend series featuring these Freedom Division foes. Somerset lost the opener last night 5-3. The Patriots have lost 15 of the 18 meetings with the Barnstormers in 2012.

Wild Card Hunt

The Patriots are currently 7.0 games behind the Revolution in the Wild Card standings. 10 of the Patriots final 14 games are at home which does bode well for Somerset. The Patriots do face the Revs four more times at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

Carlton Smith makes his second start of the season tonight

Smith Owns Lancaster

In eight games against the Barnstormers Corey Smith is 13-for-31 (.419) with 3 HRs and 9 RBI. Last night he slugged a game tying two run dinger and this is how it sounded courtesy of WCTC.

Broadcasting Note

Due to the Howard vs. Rutgers football game today, WCTC will join the Patriots broadcast as soon as the Rutgers postgame show is over. The postgame show is expected to end at 7:30 p.m. but that is subject to change.

Sanchez Sizzling

Shortstop Yunesky Sanchez hit just .212 in the first half of the season but in the second half he has turned his season around. Since the All-Star break he’s hitting .324 with three home runs and 23 RBI. He had 11 RBI the entire first half. He has hit safely in 20 of his last 22 games.

Holden Heating Up

Center fielder Joe Holden is in the midst of a season-high 11 game hitting streak.

Drennen Drama

Johnny Drennen has seven home runs of the season. Five of them have come in the seventh inning or later that have either tied or given Somerset the lead.

Starting Pitching Matchup

Righty Carlton Smith toes the rubber for Somerset while fellow righty hurler J.D. Durbin is on the hill for the Barnstormers.
