Bridgewater, NJ – Tonight the Somerset Patriots (27-31, 62-66) host the Sugar Land Skeeters (30-28, 59-69) in the first game of this mini two game midweek series featuring these Freedom Division foes at TD Bank Ballpark. Somerset is 13-5 against the expansion franchise Skeeters in 2012.

Yusuf Carter and the Patriots are poised for a strong final two weeks of the season

Wild Card Hunt

The Patriots are currently 8.0 games behind the Revolution in the Wild Card standings. 8 of the Patriots final 12 games are at home which does bode well for Somerset. Meanwhile 8 of the 12 final games for the Revolution are on the road. The Patriots do face the Revs four more times at Sovereign Bank Stadium this coming weekend.

Carter Connects

Heading into game two of Sunday’s doubleheader against Lancaster, Yusuf Carter was just 2 for his last 39 since August 14th but on Sunday he broke out of a slump. We went 2-for-2 with four RBI including a three run home run that proved to be the difference in the 7-4 victory. Here is the audio clip of the homer courtesy of WCTC.

Drennen Drama

Johnny Drennen has seven home runs of the season. Five of them have come in the seventh inning or later that have either tied or given Somerset the lead.

Starting Pitching Matchup

Lefty Roy Merritt toes the rubber for Somerset while righty hurler Michael Nix is on the hill for the Skeeters.
