Patriots Re-Sign Sanchez And Tucker

tucker swingingBridgewater, NJ- The Five-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced the re-signings of shortstop Yunesky Sanchez and outfielder Jonny Tucker.

Sanchez hit .274 with 84 hits, 14 doubles, seven homeruns, and 38 RBI in 77 games played in Somerset last season.

He played for Spain in the World Baseball Classic and hit .636 in three games.

He spent parts of the 2011 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization at the Double-A level and the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.  During his time with the Pirates he batted .299 with 40 hits and 18 RBI in 42 games.  While with the Blue Crabs he had a .403 average with 93 hits, seven homeruns, and 40 RBI in 61 games played.

In 2010 he batted .284 with 96 hits, 18 doubles, seven homeruns, and 52 RBI in 105 games while at the Triple-A level for the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.

Sanchez has a career .295 batting average with 643 hits, 101 doubles, 13 triples, 29 homeruns, and 230 RBI in 598 games.

“It’s great to have Yunesky back. Once he got comfortable here he showcased the great player and shortstop he is. We feel he is going to pick up right where he left off last season when he really hit his stride and helped lead us offensively,” said Brett Jodie, manager of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.

Tucker hit .252 with 92 hits, 13 doubles, 31 RBI, and 16 stolen bases for Somerset in 2012. He was signed by the Washington Nationals organization and reported to Double-A for 22 games last season.

Tucker also had prior experience in the Nationals and Baltimore Orioles organizations, including two seasons at the Triple-A level.

Tucker played 75 games in Double-A in 2011. for Harrisburg and had 50 hits and 23 RBI.

He has a career .257 average, 452 runs, 745 hits, 140 doubles, 24 triples, 20 home runs, and 272 RBI in 834 games played.

“Jonny is full of life and a positive influence in the clubhouse and on the field. He plays multiple positions, is very athletic, and is a spark plug at the top of the lineup that can makes things happen. We know how much he wants to be here, play hard, and win games,” said Jodie.
