Patriots Win 6-5 In Final At Bat

game5-4-13v2Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 6-5 before 6,705 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday evening.

Trailing 5-4, in the bottom of the ninth, Mike Wilson drove in the game-tying run and Luis Montanez singled home the winning run for the 6-5 final.

The Patriots took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI fielder’s choice and error that allowed Corey Smith to reach safely.

The Bluefish took the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth inning on RBI singles by Austin Krum and Luis Rodriguez and an RBI groundout that made the score 3-2.

The Patriots jumped in front with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Smith drove home the tying run with an RBI double and Wilson followed with an RBI single to take a 4-3 lead.

Bridgeport answered with two runs to regain the lead in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Rodriguez and a run scoring on a double play to make the score 5-4 final.

Paul Phillips (1-0) picked up the win for the Patriots, while Adam Carr (1-1) suffered the loss.
