Somerset broke a scoreless tie in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Corey Smith got the rally started with an RBI double to left-center, Eddy Martinez-Esteve followed with an RBI base hit, and Bobby Stevens was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home the final run for the 3-0 lead.
Southern Maryland scored in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by Ryan Mulhern to cut the lead to 3-1.
The Patriots tacked on another run in the bottom half of the fifth on an RBI base hit by Martinez-Esteve to make the score 4-1.
A two run double by Josh Kroeger in the seventh and a sacrifice fly by Martinez-Esteve increased the lead for the Patriots to 7-1.
A solo homerun in the eighth by Mulhern cut the Patriots lead to 7-2.
A two run single by Brian Barton in the top of the ninth tacked on two more runs for Southern Maryland for the 7-4 final.
Patriots starter Josh Lowey (3-1) picked up the win after allowing a run while striking out four in six innings of work. Blue Crabs starter Gaby Hernandez (0-6) suffered the loss, surrendering seven runs on 10 hits in six innings pitched. Jon Hunton came in to retire the final batter to pick up his 10th save of the season.
