Bridgeport, CT – The Somerset Patriots (23-10) completed the doubleheader sweep of the Bridgeport Bluefish (13-22) by winning the second game 8-3 Sunday afternoon from Harbor Yard. The Patriots clinched the series while the Bluefish lost their eighth contest in a row.
Somerset batted around in the top of the second inning to take an early 4-0 lead. Left fielder Ahron Eggleston hit a RBI single. Second baseman Jonny Tucker smacked a two RBI single while designated hitter Jake Fox recorded a RBI single.
In the bottom of the third inning left fielder Prentice Redman registered a two RBI double to cut the deficit in half making the score 4-2.
Eggleston spanked an inside the park home run (2) down the right field line in the top of the fourth inning to expand the Somerset lead to 5-2.
Third baseman Corey Smith socked a mammoth solo home run (5) to left field to increase the lead to 6-2 in the top of the fifth inning.
Somerset added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning as right fielder Luis Montanez clubbed a RBI single and another run scored on a wild pitch by Hayden Penn to make the score 8-2.
The Bluefish scratched across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a RBI fielder’s choice by Redman making the score 8-3 which would be the final.
Starter Paul Phillips (2-1) earned the win while opposing starter Michael Colla (2-3) suffered the loss.
