Sugar Land, TX – The Somerset Patriots (28-11) shutout the Sugar Land Skeeters (31-11) 5-0 on Saturday evening from humid Constellation Field. Patriots pitcher David Harden was brilliant as he tossed eight innings scattering just two hits while striking out six batters to earn his Atlantic League leading sixth win of the season.
The Patriots plated a pair of runs in the top of the first to take an early 2-0 lead. Leadoff hitter, second baseman Jonny Tucker, slugged a home run (2) to left-center field on the third pitch of the game while third baseman Corey Smith brought home a run with a RBI sacrifice fly.
Somerset scratched across a run in the top of the third inning as first baseman Eddy Martinez-Esteve ripped a two out RBI single up the middle to extend his hitting streak to nine games and expand the lead to 3-0.
In the top of the fifth inning center fielder Luis Montanez and right fielder Josh Kroeger each recorded RBI singles to increase the lead to 5-0 which would be the final.
Harden (6-0) earned the win. Opposing starter Adam Miller (1-1) suffered the loss as he surrendered three runs in three innings of work.
