Patriots Sweep Double Header Over Bluefish

615celebrationBridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots swept a double header over the Bridgeport Bluefish on Saturday evening before 6,021 fans at TD Bank Ballpark.

Game 1:

The Patriots defeated the Bluefish 4-2 in game one.

Bridgeport scored in the top of the first for the 1-0 lead after Alexis Gomez grounded into a double play to bring home a runner.

Somerset evened up the score in the bottom half of the frame on an RBI base hit by Jake Fox.

The Patriots rallied to score three runs to take the lead in the second on RBI doubles by Cory Aldridge, Adam Donachie, and Aharon Eggleston to make the score 4-1.

An RBI single by Austin Crum plated James Simmons in the third to cut the lead to 4-2.

Patriots starter Erik Arnesen (3-1) got the win after allowing two runs in six innings pitched.  Miguel Martinez (1-2) suffered the loss for Bridgeport, allowing four runs on nine hits in six innings pitched.  Closer Jon Hunton came on to pitch the seventh inning and pick up his 17th save of the season.

Game 2:

The Patriots won 3-2 with a walk off suicide squeeze by Aharon Eggleston in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Bridgeport struck first in the top of the fourth after Prentice Redman drove an RBI double to right field for the 1-0 lead.

The Patriots answered right back in the bottom half of the frame on an RBI base hit by Luis Montanez and a sacrifice fly by Cory Aldridge for the 2-1 advantage.

Bridgeport evened up the score in the fifth on a solo homerun by James Simmons (1) to make the score 2-2.

Patriots starter Josh Lowey (6-3) picked up the win with a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits and seven strikeouts. Matt Sommo (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing a run in 0.1 innings pitched.

The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Sunday afternoon when the Patriots take on the Bridgeport Bluefish at 1:05 pm.
