Bluefish Avoid Sweep With 8-6 Win

baisleyBridgewater, NJ- The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Somerset Patriots 8-6 before 6,809 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

Bridgeport scored in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead on a two run double by Alexis Gomez.

Jake Fox (17) answered right back for the Patriots with a two run homerun in the bottom of the first inning to make the score 2-2.

The Bluefish rallied to score three runs in the sixth on RBI doubles by Luis Lopez and Luis Rodriguez and an RBI single by Victor Diaz for the 5-2 lead.

Somerset tied the score up at five in the bottom half of the frame after Fox (18) drove his second two run homerun of the game over the left field wall and Jeff Baisley (1) followed with a solo homerun.

Bridgeport regained the lead in the seventh after an RBI double by Prentice Redman and an RBI single by Lopez for the 7-5 lead.

An RBI single by Corey Smith in the seventh cut the Bridgeport lead to one and made the score 7-6.

The Bluefish got an insurance run in the ninth after an RBI double to left by Diaz for the 8-6 final.

Bridgeport starter Kelvin Villa (1-1) got the win after allowing six runs in 6.1 innings of work.  Patriots reliever Roy Merritt (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering the go ahead run in 1.1 innings pitched.  Jeff Fulchino came on to pitch the ninth inning to pick up his seventh save of the season.

The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Monday, June 24th when the Patriots return home to take on the Camden Riversharks at 7:05 pm.
