Lancaster, PA – The Lancaster Barnstormers (30-27) crushed the Somerset Patriots (36-20) 12-2 Tuesday evening from Clipper Magazine Stadium. The Patriots have lost three games in a row for the first time this season.
In the top of the first inning first baseman Jake Fox slugged an opposite field two run home run (19) to right field that gave the Patriots an early 2-0 lead.
The Barnstormers quickly responded in the ensuing half inning as left fielder Blake Gailen hammered a game tying two run home run (6) to right field to make the score 2-2.
Lancaster took the lead in the bottom of the third inning which they would not relinquish as center fielder Jerry Owens hit a RBI sacrifice fly putting the Barnstormers in front 3-2.
First baseman Daryle Ward slapped a solo home run (7) to right field to expand Lancaster’s lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the third inning.
The Barnstormers plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a commanding 8-2 lead. Shortstop Olmo Rosario hit a RBI double. Gailen recorded a RBI single and second baseman Travis Denker tallied a two RBI double.
In the bottom of the eighth inning Ward added a RBI single and third baseman Kevin Howard hit a towering three run home run (4) to make the contest 12-2 which would be the final score.
Dwayne Pollok (7-3) earned the win hurling seven strong innings allowing two runs and striking out six batters. Paul Phillips (4-3) suffered the loss giving up a season-high seven runs in 3.1 innings of work.
The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Monday, June 24th when the Patriots return home to take on the Camden Riversharks at 7:05 p.m. The game features Bark in the Park Night where all fans are allowed to bring their dog to the ballpark.
