Sugar Land, TX – The Sugar Land Skeeters (7-1, 54-24) defeated the Somerset Patriots (2-6, 48-30) 7-2 Saturday evening from Constellation Field. The Patriots have lost a season-high four games in a row.
The Skeeters jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a RBI single by right fielder Ryan Langerhans in the bottom of the first inning.
Sugar Land scored five runs with two outs in the home half of the second inning to take a comfortable 6-0 lead. Second baseman Jeff Dominguez hit a RBI infield single. Catcher Travis Scott socked a three RBI triple down the right field line and another run came across home plate via a wild pitch thrown by Josh Lowey.
Scott spanked a RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to give the Skeeters a touchdown lead at 7-0.
Somerset scratched across two runs in the top of the ninth inning as third baseman Corey Smith and designated hitter Eddy Martinez-Esteve each tallied RBI base hits to make the score 7-2 which would be the final.
Jason Lane (7-3) earned the win tossing seven brilliant innings allowing just two hits. Josh Lowey (7-5) suffered the loss lasting 1.2 innings while giving up five runs on six hits.
The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Thursday, July 18th when the Patriots return home to take on the Lancaster Barnstormers at 7:05 p.m. The game features Jewish Heritage Night presented by the Jewish National Fund.
