Waldorf, MD – The Somerset Patriots (19-15, 65-39) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (12-23, 49-55) 2-1 Saturday evening from Regency Furniture Stadium in front 6,033 fans. The Patriots clinched the series and have won 15 of their last 19 contests. The Blue Crabs lost their eighth straight game.
In the top of the eighth inning designated hitter Jake Fox slugged a solo homer (25) to deep left-center field and two batters later third baseman Corey Smith pounded a line drive home run (16) to left field as Somerset took a 2-0 lead which they would not relinquish.
The Blue Crabs scored in the home half of the eighth inning on third baseman Renny Osuna’s soft RBI single to right field to make the score 2-1 which would be the final score.
Jason Lowey (5-3) earned the win in relief. Kyle Zaleski (4-1) suffered the loss in relief. Jon Hunton notched his Atlantic League leading 27th save of the season as he hurled a scoreless ninth inning.
The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Monday, August 12th when they return home to take on the Lancaster Barnstormers.
