York, PA – The Somerset Patriots (27-17, 73-41) defeated the York Revolution (20-26, 56-60) 4-3 Monday evening from Sovereign Bank Stadium in the series opener between these Freedom Division foes.
In the top of the third inning right fielder Cory Aldridge hit a RBI groundout to give the Patriots a 1-0 advantage.
York tied the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning as catcher Salvador Paniagua laced a RBI single to center field.
The Revolution grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as second baseman Wilson Batista sliced a RBI single to right field to make the score 2-1 in favor of York.
Somerset retook the lead in the top of the sixth inning as designated hitter Jeff Baisley slugged a two run home run (8) to deep left-center field to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Patriots.
Baisley then launched a RBI double down the right field line as the Patriots tacked on a run to lead 4-2 in the seventh inning.
In the bottom of the eighth inning shortstop Ofilio Castro registered a RBI single to cut the deficit in half for the Revs making the score 4-3 which would be the final.
Erik Arnesen (12-2) earned the win as he hurled a quality start lasting six innings while surrendering just two runs. Chris Cody (12-7) suffered the loss as he went six innings giving up three runs. Jon Hunton pitched a perfect ninth inning to notch his 30th save of the season.
