Central Islip, NY – The Somerset Patriots (31-17, 78-41) rallied to defeat the Long Island Ducks (24-25, 54-65) 7-6 Saturday evening from Bethpage Ballpark in front of 5,048 fans. Somerset has won six games in a row while the Ducks have lost four straight contests.
In the bottom of the second inning right fielder Adam Bailey crushed a solo home run (13) to give the Flock an early 1-0 advantage.
The Patriots plated three runs in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. First baseman Yunesky Sanchez tallied a RBI single and designated hitter Cory Aldridge socked a two RBI double.
The Ducks cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fourth inning as center fielder Kraig Binick registered a RBI triple making the contest 3-2.
Left fielder Aharon Eggleston roped a RBI single in the top of the sixth inning as Somerset increased its lead to 4-2.
Long Island scored four runs with two outs in the seventh inning to retake the lead at 6-4. Third baseman Bryant Nelson legged out a RBI infield single. Left fielder Ryan Strieby hit a two RBI double and Bailey blooped a RBI single.
Somerset plated three runs with two outs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 7-6 which would be the final score. Second baseman Jonny Tucker ripped a RBI double and Nelson made a throwing error that led to two unearned runs.
Jason Lowey (7-3) earned the win in relief. Ian Snell (2-3) suffered the loss in relief. Jon Hunton (32) pitched a perfect ninth inning notching the save.
