The Ducks jumped out to an early lead in the first after Josh Barfield drove an RBI triple to left and Bill Hall had a sacrifice fly to right for the 2-0 advantage.
Long Island continued to rally the following inning to plate three more runs after Ramon Castro scored on an error, Lew Ford drove home a run on an RBI single, and Barfield doubled to make the score 5-0.
The Patriots got on the board in the bottom half of the second on a solo homerun by Corey Smith (19) and a sacrifice fly by Angel Sanchez to cut the lead to 5-2.
Somerset tied the score up at five the following inning on a three run blast by Jeff Baisley (10).
The Patriots scored to take the lead in the fourth inning on a solo homerun by Eddy Martinez-Esteve (5) to make the score 6-5.
A two run blast by Smith (20), his second homerun of the game, gave the Patriots an 8-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.
An RBI single by Smith tacked on a final run for Somerset for the 9-5 final.
Patriots reliever Josh Lowey (14-8) got the win after tossing four scoreless innings and striking out six. Bob Zimmermann (4-4) suffered the loss for the Ducks, allowing four runs on six hits in two innings pitched.
