Long Island tacked on another run the following inning on an RBI double by Bryant Nelson to make the score 6-0.
A bases loaded walk to Joe Holden and an RBI base hit by Jonny Tucker got the Patriots on the board in the bottom half of the second and cut the lead to 6-2.
A single by Strieby in the seventh plated another run for the Ducks to extend their lead to 7-2.
Somerset scored in the bottom half of the seventh on an RBI single by Yunesky Sanchez to make the score 7-3.
The Patriots cut the lead to 7-5 in the eighth on an RBI double by Brian Petersen and an RBI ground out by Holden.
Ducks reliever Nick DeBarr (6-10) picked up the win after tossing two scoreless innings and striking out two. Patriots starter Paul Phillips (4-6) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on six hits in four innings pitched. Josh Strawn came in to pitch the ninth inning to pick up his second save of the season.
