Central Islip, NY – The Long Island Ducks (4-0) edged the Somerset Patriots (3-1) 4-3 Wednesday evening from Bethpage Ballpark in Game One of the Atlantic League Championship Series.
In the top of the second inning third baseman Corey Smith drilled a line drive home run (1) down the left field line to give the Patriots an early 1-0 advantage.
Somerset added a run in the top of the fourth inning as first baseman Jeff Baisley tallied a RBI single to expand the Patriots lead to 2-0.
Long Island cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the seventh inning as Bill Hall slugged a solo home run (1) to left-center field making the score 2-1.
In the bottom of the eighth inning second baseman Josh Barfield drilled a go ahead three run home run (2) to left field to give the Flock a 4-2 lead.
Designated hitter Cory Aldridge belted a solo home run (3) to right field in the top of the ninth inning making the contest 4-3 which would be the final.
John Brownell (2-0) earned the win throwing eight innings allowing just two runs. Jim Hoey (0-1) suffered the loss in relief. Leo Rosales (2) earned the save.
