Bridgewater, NJ- The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 6-4 in Game 5 of the Championship Series to win the 2013 Atlantic League Championship at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday evening. It was the Ducks second championship in a row and their third in team history.
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI double by Yunesky Sanchez.
The Ducks took the lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Ramon Castro and a three run home run by Ray Navarrete (1) for a 4-1 advantage,
Somerset cut the lead in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run by Yunesky Sanchez (2) to make the score 4-2.
Long Island extended the lead in the fifth on an RBI double by Bryant Nelson and an RBI single by Adam Bailey for a 6-2 lead.
The Patriots made it a 6-3 game on a solo home run by Jeff Baisley (2) in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Patriots plated one more in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by pinch hitter Jorge Cortes for the 6-4 final.
Ducks starter John Brownell (3-0), picked up the win, allowing four runs on five hits in eight innings pitched. Patriots starter David Harden (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing six earned runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Leo Rosales (4) pitched the ninth for the save.
