Patriots Re-Sign Pitcher Derell McCall

mccall throwingBridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced the re-signing of right-handed pitcher Derell McCall.

McCall rejoins the Patriots for his fourth season with the team. He was undefeated during the 2013 season, finishing 8-0 with a 3.46 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 80.2 innings pitched in 29 games pitched, including eight as a starter.

“Derell provides the versatility that you are always searching for on your pitching staff. He is valuable and comfortable in every possible role you ask of him. He understands his job and he is very professional in going about his business. Derell is great to be around and we are thrilled to have him back with us this season,” said Brett Jodie, the manager of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.

McCall led the team with 10 wins in 2012, finishing 10-6 with a 4.52 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 121.1 innings pitched in 28 games, 17 games started.

McCall first came to Somerset during the 2011 season and had a 4.42 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 99.2 innings pitched in 18 games.

He has a Somerset career 23-14 record, a 4.43 ERA, and 137 strikeouts in 301.2 innings pitched in 75 games pitched.

Prior to his time with the Patriots, McCall pitched for the York Revolution for the majority of the 2010 season, finishing with a 7-3 record with 54 strikeouts in 80.2 innings pitched.

McCall has 13 seasons of professional baseball experience, including two seasons at both the Single-A and Double-A levels with the Oakland Athletics and Miami Marlins organizations.

He has a minor league career record of 95-91, a 4.42 ERA, and 904 strikeouts in 1,515.2 innings pitched in 362 games.
