Patriots Complete Doubleheader Sweep

Camden, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (15-10, 62-33) defeated the Camden Riversharks (11-13, 34-60) 5-2 Saturday evening in game two of a day-night doubleheader from Campbell’s Field. AUGUST2ndGM2GRAPHIC

In the top of the second inning the Patriots scored via a throwing error by shortstop Brandon Chaves making the score 1-0.

Somerset scored three runs in the top of the fourth frame to up their lead to 4-0. Third baseman Corey Smith and catcher Kevin Kotch each sliced RBI doubles while right fielder Luis Montanez brought home a run via a RBI sacrifice fly.

Left fielder Brian Van Kirk tallied a RBI single in the home half of the fourth frame to make the score 4-1.

Smith stroked a RBI single in the top of the fifth frame to add to the lead at 5-1.

Designated hitter Yasser Gomez hit a RBI fielder’s choice to cut the deficit to 5-2 in the seventh inning.

Gary Moran (10-3) earned the win totaling six innings while scattering two hits and one run. Ryan Kulik (2-2) endured the loss lasting four innings while surrendering five runs. Mike DeMark notched the save (2) throwing a scoreless ninth inning.
