Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (14-10, 61-33) rallied past the Camden Riversharks (11-12, 34-59) by winning 7-6 Saturday afternoon in game one of a day-night doubleheader from Campbell’s Field.
In the top of the second inning first baseman Ty Wright belted a home run (8) to give Somerset an early 1-0 advantage.
The Patriots added three runs in the top of the third inning to make the contest 4-0. Second baseman Brian Barden drilled a two run home run (3) while Wright slapped a RBI single.
Second baseman Mike Albaladejo poked a RBI single in the home half of the third inning to cut the deficit to 4-1.
Camden tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning as third baseman Bryan Pounds recorded a two RBI single while first baseman Jose Julio-Ruiz launched a RBI double.
Somerset issued bases loaded walks to both Albaladejo and Pounds as Camden grabbed a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
In the top of the seventh inning catcher Damaso Espino sliced a RBI single while Cory Harrilchak hammered a go ahead two RBI double to give the Patriots a 7-6 lead which would be the final. Here is audio courtesy of WCTC of Harrilchak’s clutch hit.
Lee Hyde (1-0) earned the win in relief. Matt Gorgen (1-2) suffered the loss by blowing the save. Jon Hunton notched his Atlantic League leading 34th save of the season.
