Central Islip, NY – The Long Island Ducks (16-21, 56-50) defeated the Somerset Patriots (22-15, 69-38) 7-4 Saturday evening from Bethpage Ballpark. AUGUST16thGRAPHIC

In the bottom of the third inning designated hitter Lew Ford hit a RBI fielder’s choice while catcher Brandon Bantz slugged a grand slam (4) as the Ducks jumped out to a 5-0 lead.

The Patriots plated a pair of runs in the ensuing half inning as first baseman Brian Barden sliced a two RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-2.

The Ducks added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth frame to up the score to 7-2 as third baseman Brandon Harris tallied a RBI via a fielder’s choice and Ford brought home a run when he hit into a double play.

Designated hitter Daryle Ward and third baseman Corey Smith stroked back-to-back RBI doubles in the road half of the fifth inning to make the score 7-4.

Shaun Garceau (11-3) earned the win tossing five innings while scattering four runs. David Harden (1-2) endured the loss hurling 2.2 innings while giving up five runs. David Kopp  earned the save (3) pitching a perfect ninth inning.
