Lancaster, PA – The Lancaster Barnstormers (31-22, 70-53) swept a doubleheader over the Somerset Patriots (29-25, 76-48) Tuesday evening from Clipper Magazine Stadium. The games were delayed one hour and 53 minutes due to rain.
The Lancaster Barnstormers beat the Somerset Patriots 6-1 in game one of the doubleheader.
In the bottom of the first inning third baseman Olmo Rosario slapped a RBI double to give Lancaster a 1-0 advantage.
Catcher Keith Castillo ripped a RBI single as Lancaster added to its lead in the bottom of the second inning making the score 2-0.
The Patriots cut the deficit in half in the top of the third inning as second baseman Jeff Dominguez slugged a home run (3) making the contest 2-1.
Lancaster added four runs thanks to two home runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase their lead to 6-1. Center fielder Blake Gailen (10) and right fielder Brett Carroll (10) each launched two run home runs.
Shunsuke Watanabe (6-2) earned the win tossing five innings while allowing one run. Erik Arnesen (7-5) suffered the loss hurling four frames while giving up two runs.
The Lancaster Barnstormers outlasted the Somerset Patriots 5-4 in 10 innings in game two of the doubleheader.
In the top of the first inning designated hitter Ty Wright recorded a RBI groundout to give Somerset a 1-0 advantage.
The Barnstormers received a three RBI triple from right fielder Brett Carroll and a RBI single from shortstop Lance Zawadzki to grab a 4-1 lead in the home half of the first inning.
First baseman Daryle Ward cranked a home run (4) in the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 4-2. Audio of the home run.
Somerset evened the score at 4-4 in the top of the sixth inning as a run scored via a fielding error by third baseman Olmo Rosario and another scored via a RBI single by Ward. Audio of game tying hit.
In the bottom of the 10th inning first baseman Gabe Jacobo socked a walk-off RBI single to propel the Barnstormers to a 5-4 victory.
Evan Englebrook (1-1) earned the win in relief. Mike Solbach (0-1) suffered the loss in relief.
