Lancaster Storms Past Patriots 14-12 In 12 Innings

Lancaster, PA – The Lancaster Barnstormers (32-22, 71-53) rallied past the Somerset Patriots (29-26, 76-49) 14-12 in 12 innings Wednesday evening from Clipper Magazine Stadium. The Barnstormers erased an 11 run deficit as they scored 13 unanswered runs to propel themselves to victory. In the top of the second inning designated hitter Daryle Ward crushed a home run (5) to give Somerset a 1-0 advantage.

Somerset batted around in the top of the third inning to plate five runs and jump out to a 6-0 lead. Right fielder Ty Wright and center fielder Luis Montanez each socked RBI doubles. Third baseman Corey Smith legged out a RBI infield single. Catcher Adam Donachie hit a RBI groundout and first baseman Brian Barden tallied a RBI sacrifice fly.

Designated hitter Andrew Clark sprayed a RBI single in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 6-1.

Wright launched a home run (11) to up the score to 7-1 in the top of the fourth frame.

The Patriots sent 11 men to the plate and registered five runs on seven hits in the top of the fifth inning to take a 12-1 lead. Smith and left fielder Aharon Eggleston roped RBI singles. Shortstop Edwin Maysonet rocketed a two RBI double and Barden launched a RBI double.

Catcher Juan Apodaca belted a three run home run (5) in the home half of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 12-4.

Lancaster rallied to tie the game at 12-12 in the bottom of the eighth inning. Left fielder Blake Gailen hit a solo homer and a three run homer (12). Apodaca sliced a RBI single. Center fielder Greg Golson hit a two RBI double and right fielder Brett Carroll roped a RBI double.

Cody Eppley (3-0) earned the win in relief. Derell McCall (6-6) suffered the loss in relief.

The Barnstormers have now won 13 of their last 14 games. The Patriots have lost eight of their last 10 games.
