In the bottom of the first inning left fielder Fred Lewis slugged a RBI double to give Bridgeport a 1-0 advantage.
Somerset grabbed a 2-1 lead in the ensuing half inning as second baseman Scott Kelly notched a RBI groundout and center fielder Jonny Tucker poked a RBI single.
Lewis evened the score at 2-2 in the home half of the third inning with a RBI fielder’s choice.
The Patriots scored three times in the top of the fourth frame to take a 5-2 lead. First baseman Brian Barden cranked a home run (7) and right fielder Jeff Dominguez sprayed a two RBI single.
An error by second baseman Ramon Castro plated shortstop Edwin Maysonet as Somerset increased its lead to 6-2 in the top of the sixth inning.
Left fielder Ty Wright crushed a two run home run (12) in the top of the ninth inning to give Somerset an 8-2 cushion.
Josh Lowey (1-0) earned the win tossing six innings while scattering two runs. Matt Iannazzo (3-10) sustained the loss surrendering six runs in six innings of work.
