donzkellywebBridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced the re-signings of catcher Adam Donachie, left-handed pitcher Matt Zielinski, and infielder Scott Kelly.

Donachie was a 2014 Atlantic League All-Star and the league’s “Catcher of the Year.” He finished the season with a .277 batting average, 34 runs scored, 67 hits, six doubles, nine home runs, and 45 RBI in 78 games played.

This will be Donachie’s fourth season with the Somerset Patriots. In 82 games for Somerset in 2013 he had 62 hits, 11 doubles, six home runs, and 40 RBI.

“Adam had a huge impact for our club in 2014. He does a great job leading our pitching staff. He works well with our guys and they have a high trust and comfort level with him. Adam also is a guy that we want at the plate in key situations,” said Brett Jodie, Manager of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.

Donachie drove in 22 runs on 69 hits, 17 doubles, and three home runs while scoring 27 times for the Patriots during the 2012 season.

He was a second round draft pick of the Kansas City Royals in 2002 and also has experience in the Baltimore Orioles organization.   He has two seasons of Triple-A time, including 14 games at Norfolk in 2011.

Donachie has 699 career hits, 142 doubles, 68 home runs, and 354 RBI in 928 games played.

Zielinski started the 2014 Atlantic League All-Star Game and was named the 2014 Atlantic League “Left-Handed Pitcher of the Year.” He was 10-8 with a 3.27 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 151.1 innings pitched in 27 games.

“Matt came in last year and did a great job in our rotation. I think he really showed a lot of growth and maturity.  He seemed to be able to adapt to the league and make the necessary adjustments to be successful. We look forward to having him compete and win games for us in 2015,” Jodie said.

Zielinski has four seasons of independent minor league experience, playing for the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League before joining Somerset.

In 2012, he was 9-7 with a 3.40 ERA and 114 strikeouts in 124.1 innings pitched in 20 games.

Kelly made the team from the open tryouts and played in 92 games for Somerset. He had 32 runs, 47 hits, 10 RBI, and led the team with 20 stolen bases in his first professional baseball season last year.

“Scott is a guy that you want on your team. He won a spot on our club last year by outplaying the competition in camp. He is constantly working on his game to better himself. He is very athletic and can play multiple positions.  Scott is a very high character guy that people like to be around,” Jodie added.

Kelly played for the College of New Jersey, where he finished the 2013 season with a .331 batting average, 55 hits, six doubles, and 23 RBI in 39 games played.
