First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from Regency Furniture Stadium. Download today’s comprehensive game notes. This is the 18th year of Somerset Patriots Baseball. The Patriots are coming off of back-to-back playoff appearances. This marks the first time since 2010 that Somerset opens up a season on the road.
Starting Pitching Matchup
Lefty Sean Bierman (0-0, 0.00 ERA) toes the rubber for Somerset while fellow southpaw Brian Burres (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will toss for Southern Maryland. This is Bierman’s first year in the Atlantic League as he has peaked at high-A ball while Burres begins his second stint in Southern Maryland and is a former MLB player with the Baltimore Orioles.
The Patriots are looking for their sixth title franchise history (2001, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2009). Somerset has made the postseason 11 times in their 17 years.
Closer Jon Hunton has 91 saves combined the last two years including the playoffs. This year he lost 40 pounds in anticipation for the 2015 campaign. He set an Atlantic League single season record in 2014 tallying 49 saves shattering the previous single season record of 40 held by Mike Guilfoyle of Bridgeport in 2003.
