Starting Pitching Matchup Game One
Righty Mickey Storey (0-0, 0.00 ERA) toes the rubber for Somerset while fellow righty hurler Shaun Garceau (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will toss for Southern Maryland. This is Storey’s first year in the Atlantic League as the Florida native was in the Major Leagues with the Astros and Blue Jays in 2012 and 2013. In the offseason Garceau was traded from Long Island to Southern Maryland. This is his third different Atlantic League squad (Revolution, Ducks, Blue Crabs). Garceau guided the Flock to a 2013 Atlantic League Championship.
Starting Pitching Matchup Game Two
Righty Randy Boone (0-0, 0.00 ERA) toes the rubber for Somerset while fellow righty hurler Gaby Hernandez (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will toss for Southern Maryland. Boone spent his entire career in the Toronto Blue Jays organization (2008-14) until this year. Hernandez returns for his fourth year with the Blue Crabs. Last year he led the Atlantic League in home runs allowed.
The Patriots are looking for their sixth title franchise history (2001, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2009). Somerset has made the postseason 11 times in their 17 years.
Closer Jon Hunton has 91 saves combined the last two years including the playoffs. This year he lost 40 pounds in anticipation for the 2015 campaign. He set an Atlantic League single season record in 2014 tallying 49 saves shattering the previous single season record of 40 held by Mike Guilfoyle of Bridgeport in 2003. He notched a save on Opening Night.
Right fielder Scott Cousins had a tremendous debut on Opening Night as the lanky lefty with 4-for-4 with 2 RBI and 2 stolen bases.
