Bridgeport, CT – The Bridgeport Bluefish (3-2) defeated the Somerset Patriots (2-3) 7-4 Wednesday afternoon from Harbor Yard. The Bluefish won their third straight game while the Patriots lost their third straight game.
In the bottom of the second inning Bridgeport plated four runs to take an early 4-0 advantage. Second baseman Luis Rodriguez ripped a two RBI double, shortstop Ildemaro Vargas slapped a RBI single and third baseman Sean Burroughs poked a RBI double.
First baseman Andres Rodriguez smacked a RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning to expand the Bluefish lead to 5-0.
The Patriots plated a run in the top of the fourth inning as left fielder Aharon Eggleston lifted a RBI sacrifice fly to make the contest 5-1.
The Bluefish tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth frame as center fielder Nick Van Stratten laced a RBI single while another run crossed home via second baseman Nate Spears’ throwing error.
Center fielder Jonny Tucker recorded a RBI groundout to make the score 7-2 in the top of the fifth inning.
Somerset scratched across two runs in the top of the ninth inning to make the score 7-4 which would be the final. Catcher James Skelton hit a RBI single and pitcher Nate Baker hurled a wild pitch that led to a run.
D.J. Mitchell (1-0) earned the win tossing five innings allowing two runs. Tyler Herron (0-1) sustained the loss lasting just two innings surrendering four runs.
