Waldorf, MD – Tonight the Somerset Patriots (5-3, 89-50) battle the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (4-3, 69-71) in Game Four of the Atlantic League Championship Best-of-Five Series. The series is 2-1 in favor of Somerset. The Patriots are one win away from their first Championship in six years which is their longest title drought in franchise history. The Patriots repeated as Half Title Winners while the Blue Crabs won the First Half Freedom Division Title. The Patriots are searching for their sixth Atlantic League Championship while the Blue Crabs are looking for their first. This is a rematch of the 2009 Atlantic League Championship Series where the Patriots won 3-1.

Starting Pitching Matchup

Lefty Roy Merritt (8-6, 2.88 ERA) toes the rubber for Somerset while righty hurler Tim Sexton (1-1, 3.53 ERA) will toss for Southern Maryland. Both starting pitchers won the clinching games in each of their squad’s first round series.

Game One Synopsis

Blue Crabs Top Patriots 7-3. Fred Lewis broke the 2-2 tie in the top of the fifth inning with a three run homer to right field that gave the Blue Crabs a lead they would never relinquish.

Game Two Synopsis

Somerset defeats Southern Maryland 7-2. Will Oliver dazzled giving up two runs on four hits in seven strong innings of work. He struck out eight and walked one. Greg Hopkins tallied three RBI. David Vidal scratched across two RBI.

Game Three Synopsis

Patriots power past Blue Crabs 7-3. Matt Fields’ pounded two different two run homers while the bullpen tossed 2.2 scoreless innings. Nate Spears went 3-for-3 with a walk.
