The Top 20 Patriots presented by AT&T is a season-long promotion as part of the team’s 20th Season. The Top 20 Patriots were voted on by the fans and ranked by an expert panel of team officials, media, and long-time fans.
“I’m truly honored. It’s always nice to be remembered and thought of this way,” said Cahill. “Baseball in Somerset County was always the best years of baseball I ever had. The memories are amazing.”
Before his time with the Patriots, Cahill was already well known throughout the area as a standout for Immaculata High School, where he was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2011. His outstanding high school career included being chosen three times each for All County, All Area, and All State teams. He was also a two-time selection as Somerset County Player of the Year in 1999 and 2000 and was selected for the All-American High School Baseball Team in 2000. That year, his team won the Somerset County Championship at TD Bank Ballpark, where he would become a fixture from 2007-2011.
“To play here in high school and come back almost a decade later in front of the same fans and my family and friends showed that I had come full circle. Winning the championship in high school and then two championships with the Patriots is definitely pretty cool. It’s something I’ll never forget,” Cahill added.
During his five seasons with the Patriots, Cahill became one of the core group of players that anchored four playoff runs and two championships (2008, 2009).
A dependable reliever, who was named an All-Star in 2008, Cahill went on to become the Patriots all-time career leader in games pitched with 230.
He has a Somerset career 23-13 record and 4.93 ERA in 319.1 innings pitched.
“Casey is the definition of the heart and soul of a team,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “He cared so much about this organization, his teammates, and winning. His love of the game and the Patriots family made him a tremendous joy to be around. I don’t think you’ll find a bigger competitor who would do anything asked for this team.”
Cahill was also a fan favorite who always made time to represent the team at the ballpark and throughout the community and was one of the team’s best ambassadors in its 20-season history.
“Those Somerset teams were very special. I was on a team of guys that always made me look good. You build friendships that will last forever. It’s rare to be competing with guys that you respect so much for how they approach the game and life in general. I couldn’t ask for more than that,” Cahill remarked.
