topfb foxBridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced that infielder/catcher Jake Fox has been voted as the #15 Patriot in team history.

The Top 20 Patriots presented by AT&T is a season-long promotion as part of the team’s 20th Season. The Top 20 Patriots were voted on by the fans and ranked by an expert panel of team officials, media, and long-time fans.

“Somerset will always have a special place in my heart. Brett Jodie found me when I was in a difficult time with my career,” said Fox. “Playing for him and for the organization reminded me why I love to play the game. Somerset provides an experience far beyond what fans see from the seats. It gives players a place they can figure out who they are and what kind of player they want to be. Restoring love for the game is rare and unique. It is a quality I have only found playing for the Patriots.”

The 2013 Atlantic League Player of the Year was leading the Atlantic League with 25 home runs and 82 RBI and was among the league leaders in several offensive categories including a .310 batting average when the Arizona Diamondbacks purchased his contract in-season. Despite playing in just 96 games for Somerset that season, Fox’s numbers still ranked among the top in the league against players that played an entire season with their teams.

The same year, Fox won three consecutive games with walk off hits. Beginning on August 2nd, Fox hit a walk off single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Patriots to a win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. On August 3rd, he completed the Patriots come from behind victory with a bases loaded single to left center field in the 11th inning. Then on August 4th, Fox hit a walk off solo home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to complete the three-game sweep.

“Some of my greatest baseball memories have come from my time in Somerset. One that really stands out was the three walk off hits I had in three consecutive games. I still remember the third game when I hit a walk off home run. I can still see the look on Shane Spencer’s face as I approached third base. I remember racing him to home plate where I was bombarded by the rest of the team. We had tight team chemistry and it was amazing to celebrate with guys I had so much respect for. Very few times in my career did I ever enjoy a celebration as much,” Fox remarked.

Fox first joined Somerset during the 2012 season and had a .388 average with 31 hits, six doubles, a triple, seven home runs and 20 RBI in 21 games before signing with the Philadelphia Phillies in early August.

Prior to coming to the Patriots, Fox had spent parts of four seasons at the Major League level, where he has accumulated 116 hits, 28 doubles, two triples, 20 homeruns, and 73 RBI in 193 career games. He has Big League service with the Chicago Cubs, Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles.

For his time in Somerset, Fox had a career .326 average, 153 hits, 32 home runs and 104 RBI in 122 games played.

“I am honored to be a part of Patriots history and I look forward to their continued success as an organization. I will always be a Patriot at heart and I am proud of what they represent. I want to thank all the fans for their support and I wish this year’s team the best of luck. Go Patriots,” Fox added.
