PLATINUM ANNIVERSARY: 2017 is Somerset’s 20th season as a franchise. Having already won an Atlantic League-record six championships, the Patriots are looking to make it seven league-titles in their 20th season of action.
BACK TO THE BIG LEAGUES: Former Somerset RHP Tyler Cloyd had his contract selected on 6/2 from AAA-Tacoma by the Seattle Mariners. Cloyd is the 18th Patriot to make it to the MLB after playing for Somerset. He last pitched for the Patriots on 5/6 and had his contract purchased on 5/10. It took 27 days for Cloyd to get called up to the big leagues after his last Patriot appearance.
CONGRATS ARE IN ORDER: Nine Patriots have had their contracts purchased in 2017; seven by MLB organizations. LHPs Jeremy Bleich, Logan Darnell & Aaron Laffey along with RHPs Tyler Cloyd, Ryan Kelly, Vin Mazzaro and outfielder Jerry Sands had their contracts purchased earlier this season. INF Olmo Rosario (Bravos de Leon, Mexican League) and RHP Scott McGregor (Taiwan Professional Baseball) also had their contracts purchased earlier this season.
SANDS(TORM): Outfielder Jerry Sands had his contract purchased by the San Francisco Giants in early June. In his last days as a Patriot, he had reached base in 23-straight games, including a 10-game hit streak & consecutive multi-home run games (5/30 – 5/31). In that stretch, Sands was 33-84 (.393) w/ 11 HR, 34 RBI and 23 runs. Sands led the league in HR (13), RBI (45), R (32), XBH (27), 2B (14), TB (99), SLG (.688) & OPS (1.075) at this time his contract was purchased. His numbers continue to lead the league in HR, RBI, 2B, XBH, SLG and OPS.
RICK TEASLERGAARD: Since joining the Somerset rotation, Rick Teasley has worked into the eighth inning three times, including a 7.2 inning, one earned-run performance against the Bridgeport Bluefish on 6/7. The first-year Patriot now holds the second-best ERA (2.22) in the Atlantic League among qualified pitchers.

YO-YO HOT: Yovan Gonzalez has reached base safely in 26 of the 29 games in which he has played this year, including hits in 12 of his last 13. Over those 13 games, Gonzalez is 18-49 (.367) with a home run, five runs and seven RBI. He is 9 plate appearances (118, needs 127) short of qualifying among the league leaders in batting, but his .356 average would otherwise rank first.
SCOTTY DOES KNOW: Infielder Scott Kelly has turned it on as of late, recording a hit in 24 of his last 28 games. Over that stretch, the fourth-year Patriot is 32-99 (.323) with 18 runs scored, 14 RBI, 13 SB and 12 walks.
JUST-IN TIME: OF Justin Pacchioli has reached base in 24 of his last 28 games – including a current seven-game hit streak – over which he is batting 32-85 (.376) w/ 14 RBI, 21 R & 14 SB. Pacchioli is just eight PA (119, needs 127) shy of qualifying among league leaders, but his .343 average would otherwise rank third.
TOP 20: All season long, the Somerset Patriots will be unveiling their Top 20 players in franchise history. Utilityman Elliot Ayala was just named the 13th greatest Patriot of all time. Follow along all season to find out who will join him!
