CONGRATS ARE IN ORDER: 15 Patriots have had their contracts purchased in 2017: 11 by MLB organizations. LHPs Jeremy Bleich, Logan Darnell (twice) & Aaron Laffey along w/ RHPs Tyler Cloyd, Ryan Kelly, Vin Mazzaro, Mitch Atkins, INF Tyler Bortnick & OFs Jerry Sands and Christian Marrero had theirs’ purchased this season. LHP Rick Teasley (Taiwan), INF Olmo Rosario (2X, Mexico) and RHP Scott McGregor (Taiwan) also had their contracts’ purchased earlier this season.
MERRY CLINCH-MAS: Having won the first half Liberty Division Championship, the Somerset Patriots have clinched a playoff berth and have now won an Atlantic League-record 18 half championships, including eight first-half championships.
COUNTDOWN TO 1,000: Carlos Guzman is currently just 15 hits away from 1,000 over his professional career (all levels). The second-year Patriot currently leads the team in hits (94), at-bats (372), games (98) and ranks 2nd in RBI (49).
ABOVE AVERAGE: Justin Pacchioli ranks T-second in the Atlantic League in steals (33), sixth in OBP (.387), eighth in runs (57) and 12th in batting (.290). Added, he has hit safely in 16 of 24 games and a run scored in 13 of his last 25.
KEEP THE GOOD TIMES ROLLIN’: Kyle Roller has reached base in 16 of his last 20 games (hits in 12-of-20). Over that stretch, Roller has six home runs and 21 RBI. Despite just 67 games this year, he ranks T-fifth in the league in home runs (18), T-10th in RBI (58) and would lead the league in SLG (.593) if qualified.
IT’S A TRAPP: Justin Trapp has reached base in 12 of 14 games, including hits in 10-of-14. Over this stretch, Trapp is 17-for-45 (.378) with seven 2B, seven walks, 10 runs and 11 RBI. He has also reached base in 19 of his 24 starts.
TRUST THE FORCE, LUKE: RHP Lucas Irvine earned his team-leading eighth win of the year on 8/19. Six of his last eight starts have been quality starts, yielding two runs or less in seven of his last eight. He is 4-1 over this stretch with a 2.26 ERA (12 ER over 47.2 IP), lowering his ERA from 4.91 to 3.76.
ALL ANTOL-IN: RHP Dustin Antolin has yet to give up an earned run since joining the Patriots. The former Toronto Blue Jay has spanned 12.0 innings in 11 total appearances, striking out 18 batters compared to just one walk.
E-XCELLENT STRETCH: LHP Efrain Nieves has tossed six-straight quality starts, dating back to 7/19. Over this stretch, Nieves is 1-2 with a 2.87 ERA (12 ER in 37.2 IP) and 33 strikeouts, lowering his season ERA from 5.25 to 3.44.
ANTONINI SHINES: LHP Mike Antonini has impressed over his first five starts in Somerset, yielding just three runs over 23.0 IP (1.17 ERA). Additionally, he has allowed just five walks so far against 27 strikeouts, including a team-high 10 strikeouts August 13th and a no-hitter through six innings on August 19th.
