FIRST PLACE BEST PLACE: Somerset has held at least a share of first place for every day so far this season. The Patriots were in held at least a share of first place for 72 straight-days in the first half last year, with only three days tied.
OFF THE SCHNEID: Both Kyle Roller and Endy Chavez hit their first home runs of the season in the 8-3 win in game one of the doubleheader yesterday vs. LAN.
inVINCEable: Since allowing a run in each of his first three appearances, RHP Vince Molesy has yielded just one run over 12.1 innings pitched in his last five games (0.79 ERA) with three walks and 12 strikeouts. He carries a 1.66 ERA on the year.
NUMBAH ONE: Mike Fransoso has hit safely in nine of his last 11 games, and owns a seven-game on-base-streak. Since May 18, he is hitting .344 (11-for-32) with six runs and five RBI. He currently leads the league in OBP (.467) and ranks fourth in AVG (.360).
MIAMI VICE: 3B Alex Castellanos went 2-for-4 Wednesday against Lancaster with a home run and four RBI. The Miami native is hitting .400 over his last four games with two home runs and seven RBI. He leads the team in HR (4) and RBI (16).
BORBON STREET: Outfielder Julio Borbon has three XBH in his last six games. He leads the league in doubles (12), is tied for second in extra-base hits (16), and ranks ninth in slugging (.515).
K IS FOR KUBIAK: RHP David Kubiak tossed five scoreless innings with six strikeouts in his 2018 debut on 5/25. He had 117 strikeouts in 112.2 IP last year.
ANTONINI SHINES: Second-year Patriots southpaw Mike Antonini has not allowed an earned run over his first 14.2 innings on just three hits with 18 K.
RIORDOMINANT: RHP Cory Riordan continued his dominance with the first CG of the year for the Patriots yesterday. He is now 3-1 on the year with a 3.35 ERA, good for 16th in the league. His 37.2 IP leads in the Atlantic League, while his 1.19 BB/9 is 4th amongst all qualified pitchers.
SPEED DEMONS: The Patriots stole six bases in their series with the Barnstormers and now rank second in the Atlantic League as a team in steals (37). Additionally, Justin Trapp ranks third in the league in stolen bases (11).
CLOSE GAME MAGIC: 11 of Somerset’s first 18 wins have come by just one run. They are 11-2 in one-run games this season and were 20-21 last year.
BEST OF LUCK: There have been three contracts purchased from the Somerset Patriots so far in 2018. Brett Oberholtzer (Rockies), Scott Copeland (Mets) and Aaron Laffey (Mets) have all been signed to Major League organizations. Scott Copeland made his Mets debut last night vs. the Cubs, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings with 2 K.
