FIRST PLACE BEST PLACE: Somerset has held at least a share of first place for every day so far this season. The Patriots were in held at least a share of first place for 72 straight-days in the first half last year, with only three days tied.
SASSY MASSEY: IF Craig Massey has reached base safely in six of his last seven starts, having raised his OBP from .286 to .451 in the process. He is 8-for-21 (.381) from the plate with two steals, five RBI, seven runs and eight walks over this stretch. Additionally, Massey has reached base in 15 of his last 28 plate appearances over these seven games – all of which have been consecutive starts.
NUMBAH ONE: Mike Fransoso has hit safely in 10 of his last 12 games, and owns an eight-game on-base-streak. Since May 18, he is hitting .371 (13-for-35) with three steals, six RBI, eight runs and nine walks. He currently leads the league in OBP (.484) and ranks second in AVG (.372).
MIAMI VICE: 3B Alex Castellanos is currently riding a five-game on base streak. The Miami native is hitting .421 (8-for-19) over this stretch with two home runs, five runs scored and eight RBI. He leads the team in HR (4) and RBI (17).
BORBON STREET: OF Julio Borbon is 10-for-28 (.357) with five SB, five RBI and seven runs over his last seven games. He’s hit safely in 13 of his last 15 games, leads the league in 2B (12), is third in XBH (16), and ranks 10th in SLG (.520).
SPEED DEMONS: The Patriots tied a season-high with five stolen bases and Julio Borbon set a single-game high with three steals in Friday’s opener against the Road Warriors. They rank second in the Atlantic League as a team in steals (42). Additionally, Justin Trapp ranks third in the league in stolen bases (11).
GOOD GOLLY MOLLY: Dustin Molleken has now gone five consecutive appearances without allowing an earned run, lowering his ERA from 4.77 to 2.61. During that stretch, he has thrown 5.1 IP, with six strikeouts to just two walks.
inVINCEable: Since allowing a run in each of his first three appearances, RHP Vince Molesy has yielded just one run over 12.1 innings pitched in five games (0.79 ERA) with three walks and 12 strikeouts. He carries a 1.66 ERA on the year.
ANTONINI SHINES: Second-year Patriots southpaw Mike Antonini has not allowed an earned run over his first 14.2 innings on just three hits with 18 K.
RIORDOMINANT: RHP Cory Riordan continued his dominance with the first CG of the year for the Patriots yesterday. His 37.2 IP leads in the Atlantic League while his 1.19 BB/9 ranks fourth amongst all qualified pitchers.
CLOSE GAME MAGIC: 11 of Somerset’s first 18 wins have come by just one run. They are 11-2 in one-run games this season and were 20-21 last year.
