Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have teamed up with the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) and the Courier News, Home News Tribune and MyCentralJersey.Com for a special community summer reading program.
The SCLSNJ Summer Reading Challenge will take place from June 18th through August 18th this year and is open to any reader from Somerset, Middlesex, Hunterdon, and Union counties. Interested readers can log on to sclsnj.org/summerreading to join the program.
“We are excited and honored to expand our Summer Reading program by partnering with the Patriots and MyCentralJersey.com,” SCLSNJ County Library Administrator Brian Auger told Paul Grzella of the Courier News, Home News Tribune, and MyCentralJersey.com. “Study after study shows the importance of programs like ours in keeping kids reading and in preventing the ‘summer slide’. Our new partners, with their tremendous reach and appeal, will be a huge boost in getting more reading materials in front of more kids throughout the summer.”
The newly expanded program asks readers to set daily reading goals, read, and record their progress to earn prizes including Somerset Patriots tickets and Barnes & Noble Gift Cards based on the number of days the participants read. All prizes are available while supplies last.
“We have always been active in programs encouraging children to read. This is a great partnership between our team, the Somerset County Library System, and MyCentralJersey.com that will help reach a large number of kids and show them that reading is not only important, but also fun,” said Patrick McVerry, President/General manager of the Somerset Patriots. “In addition to the educational benefits, all those that complete the required program elements will be treated to a game this season. We look forward to welcoming all the participants to the ballpark.”
