Bridgewater, New Jersey – The Lancaster Barnstormers (19-26, 43-72) scored four runs in the ninth to beat the Somerset Patriots (18-28, 60-56) 6-2 on Wednesday night at TD Bank Ballpark.
Somerset struck first, tallying a run in the second inning when Alfredo Rodriguez drove in a two-out RBI. Then in the fourth, Will Kengor delivered with a two-out RBI single to extend the Patriots lead to two.
Joe Terdoslavich singled in the first run of the game for Lancaster in the fifth to cut the Patriots lead in half. K.C. Hobson (16) knotted the game at two in the seventh with a solo home run to right field.
The ‘Stormers charged ahead with four runs in the top of the ninth. Melvin Mercedes began the inning with a single to left and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt followed by a flyout. Later in the inning, Caleb Gindl doubled to plate a run and the next batter, Terdoslavich, collected an RBI single. Destin Hood (8) capped off the inning with a two-run home run to left center field.
While Scott Kelly did not drive in a run for Somerset, the utility man went 4-for-4; a single-game season-high for the sixth-year Patriot.
Liam O’Sullivan received a no decision but pitched his ninth-straight quality start, throwing six innings and allowing just one run.
Logan Sawyer (2-1) earned the win after he pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
Chris Beck (0-1) was handed the loss. Beck allowed four Lancaster runs in the top of the ninth.
