In the second part of our series that we’re hoping you just stumble upon since we’re certainly not pushing it out on social media, we take another look at the crossover between card collecting and minor league baseball, specifically with a player-by-player look at just how to collect your favorite Somerset Patriots players.

Don’t want to wait for the team’s highly anticipated card set to come out?

You’ve got plenty of options. Let’s look at relief pitchers and catchers today…

REID ANDERSON

1st Bowman: N/A

Key Card: Anderson only has one team-issued card available, and it’s from the 2019 Pulaski Yankees team set.

Good Value: N/A

KEEGAN CURTIS

1st Bowman: N/A

Key Card: Like Anderson, Curtis has only been featured in a team set so far, with the 2019 Staten Island Yankees issue being his only cardboard so far.

Good Value: N/A

CARLOS ESPINAL

1st Bowman: N/A

Key Card: As a reliever with more experience, Espinal has multiple cards to chase, albeit only in team sets.  You can find him in the 2017 Pulaski set, 2018 Pulaski set and the 2019 Charleston set.

Good Value:

KEVIN GADEA

1st Bowman: N/A

Key Card: Gadea appears to only have one card, a 2016 Clinton Lumberkings update set issue that’s relatively difficult to track down.

Good Value: N/A

MICHAEL GOMEZ

1st Bowman: N/A

Key Card: It doesn’t appear Gomez has any cards at all, likely the product of him having quick stays on three different teams in 2019 and not being anywhere long enough to get in a team set.

Good Value: N/A

RON MARINACCIO

1st Bowman: N/A

Key Card: Marinaccio has just one card, back in 2018 when he was featured in the Pulaski Yankees team issue.

Good Value: N/A

STEPHEN RIDINGS

1st Bowman: N/A

Key Card: Ridings has just one card, a team set issue with the 2018 Eugene Emeralds.

Good Value: N/A

J.P. SEARS

1st Bowman: N/A

Key Card: Sears appears to have three cards, including, like Gadea, one in the hard to find Clinton Lumberkings update set, with this one being issued in 2017.  Sears also has a card in Charleston’s 2018 set, and Tampa’s 2019 issue.

Good Value:

JEFRY VALDEZ

1st Bowman: N/A

Key Card: Like Sears, Valdez has cards from multiple organizations.  He was featured in the 2017 Grand Junction Rockies an d 2018 Boise Hawks sets, as well as the 2019 Charleston set.

Good Value: N/A

GREG WEISSERT

1st Bowman: N/A

Key Card: Weissert may be the best candidate out of this group of relievers to get a Bowman card down the road, but for now, he’s only been featured in team sets.  Best I can tell you, you can find him in the 2016 Pulaski set, 2018 Charleston set and 2019 Tampa set.

Good Value: N/A

CHASE ILLIG

1st Bowman: N/A

Key Card: It does not appear that Illig has any cards just yet.

Good Value: N/A

JASON LOPEZ

1st Bowman: N/A

Key Card: Lopez has been featured in three team sets over the course of his career with the Yankees; 2017 Staten Island, 2018 Charleston and 2019 Tampa

Good Value: N/A

MAX MCDOWELL

1st Bowman: N/A

Key Card: McDowell appears to have been featured on quite a few cards during his days in the Brewers organization, which seem to date back a 2016 appearance in the Midwest League All-Star Game set.

Good Value: N/A

DONNY SANDS

1st Bowman: 2016 Bowman Chrome

Key Card: While Sands has plenty of team set issues, the Bowman Chrome card is the one to get, especially with some color variations available on the cheap right now for a guy who got off to a very hot start in Double-A.

Good Value: The best value on eBay right now would seem to be a green refractor of Sands’ first Bowman Chrome card, which is currently available for $10 OBO and numbered to just 99 copies.
