The Somerset Patriots have sent their first player to the majors.
Estevan Florial, who hit .229 with four homers and six RBI in nine games in Double-A to start the season before he was promoted to Triple-A Scranton, has been summoned to the Bronx from Scranton in a series of roster moves that the club announced early this afternoon.
“Very happy to see Florial get called up to the big leagues,” said Somerset manager Julio Mosquera in team-provided comments.
“He has been working to get better each and every day. It’s good to see him get the opportunity. He’s got an amazing talent.”
Corey Kluber and Luke Voit were placed on the DL, while Albert Abreu and Florial are headed up.
Florial has largely struggled since being promoted to Triple-A, just as he did with Somerset once the season-opening homestand was over; the outfielder is batting just .176 with two homers and three RBI in his first eight games with the RailRiders.
