(PR) Harrisburg, Penn. – The Somerset Patriots (34-18) dominated the Harrisburg Senators (20-32) Saturday night with a 10-0 win at FNB Field.
Patriots starter Glenn Otto (W, 5-3) turned in one of the best performances from a pitcher this season. The No. 28 prospect in the New York Yankees organization (MLB Pipeline) allowed just one hit and no walks while striking out 12 over seven scoreless innings. It was the fifth time this season Otto struck out 10 or more batters.
Otto hit the first batter he faced in the bottom of the first inning with a pitch. After that, the righty retired 20 batters in a row and carried a no-hitter through 6.2 innings of work. KJ Harrison broke up the no-hit bid with a double off the left-field fence with two outs in the seventh inning.
It marked the longest a Patriot has carried a no-hit bid this season.
Offensively, the Patriots tied a season-high with five home runs on the night, including a season-best three home runs in the same inning (top of the third).
Diego Castillo (10) led off the top of the first with a solo home run on the second pitch of the ballgame. In the third, Oswaldo Cabrera (8) and Donny Sands (9) went-back-to-back with a three run shot and a solo blast, respectively. Michael Beltre (8) hit a solo home run later in the inning to set the new season-high.
Oswaldo Peraza (3) added a solo shot in the sixth for the team’s fifth home run of the night.
Cabrera finished the night with four RBI and now has seven RBI over his last three games.
The shutout win for the Patriots was their second of the series in Harrisburg and their eighth of the season. Somerset is now a season-best 16 games over .500 and owns the best record in the Double-A Northeast League.
Somerset and Harrisburg conclude their six-game series Sunday afternoon. Right-hander Luis Medina (0-1, 7.80) takes the mound for the Patriots against righty Luis Reyes (5-4, 5.05 ERA) for the Senators. First pitch at FNB Field is set for 1:00 p.m.
