As part of the roster shake-up at the top related to a COVID-19 outbreak and an injury to Luke Voit, four Somerset Patriots players were called up to Triple-A.
Donny Sands, Matt Pita, Thomas Milone and Cristian Perez were all sent to Scranton immediately after Thursday night’s game, and it’s the first call-up to the highest level of the minors for Sands and Pita, while it’s a return trip this season for Milone and Perez.
Sands, 25, ht .249 with ten homers and 25 RBI in 51 games with Somerset this year, and has largely served as the team’s primary catcher over Jason Lopez.
Pita has played three different positions for the Patriots this season in a sort of super-utility role, and has hit .221 with no homers and ten RBI in his first 30 games this year.
Milone has seen two stints in Somerset this season, and is returning to Scranton; he’s found success in both stops, and is a .305 hitter in the minors between 2A and 3A in 2021.
Perez, just 22 years old, has seen time at three different levels this season, and largely been used as a spare infielder in each stop; he’s hitting .194 in 24 games so far.
